CLASS LEVELS: Most classes work with all levels of quilters, both beginners,
and those who are more advanced but who wish to try something different.

LOG CABIN STEW
This class introduces students to my free-form method of quilt construction. Using a modified log cabin block, I demonstrate how to fracture the blocks and then recombine them into unplanned new blocks. The class includes demonstrations of: curved piecing, using sashing and coping strips and improvisational design . Several binding choices are also discussed. This is a good introduction to my “nothing needs to match” style of quilting!

CROOKED HOUSES
This class (two mirror-image houses) is excellent as a first paper-piecing class, and also good for those who have used paper piecing and wish to experiment with methods of adding interest to their quilt tops via irregular sashing and settings, fused applique touches, and threadwork.

TEE-SHIRTS GALORE
This class includes construction and design techniques for setting tee-shirts, photo transfers, or any other unusual fabric motif. Concentration is on unusual setting techniques and getting students comfortable creating a quilt from blocks of various sizes - using strata, coping strips.

HOSTAS AND DAISIES
Students are introduced to the construction of small fused collages, using wonder-under fusible web. The class is both a design class, and a “how to” for fusible applique and other tricks. Students can make their own original design, or use the pattern provided. Susanne also covers quilting choices and unique binding ideas. Students will complete a small quilt top and may finish quilting as well.

SCRAPPY FUSION
This is a variation of Hostas and Daisies, above, but in this class students compose a 12" fused collage of their own design (with as much help from me as needed!) I will also demonstrate several choices for machine quilting and unusual binding.
Half Day Class
It would be possible to “kit” this class if taught for a guild.

MAKE THE BEST OF YOUR SCRAPS
In this all day class, students receive two easy block designs and use many, many fabrics from their own scrap bags. One pattern is half-square triangles using strips and scraps; the other is simply scraps sewn together and trimmed. The class will free students up from tight constraints and measurements reinforce that “no scrap is too small” ! Usually a good follow-on class for students who’ve taken Log Cabin Stew, or Crooked Houses.

BINDING SUSANNE'S WAY
In this workshop, students will learn how to construct and attach invisible binding - usable on straight or curved edge quilts. These techniques are discussed in the all-day classes but actual hands-on experience comes in this class.

EVENING UP THE ODDS
This class is best used by students of Susanne’s other classes, who wish to finish up a project, or get a better understanding of how to complete a quilt top of uneven blocks. Susanne covers her construction and design strategies - including sewing strata, repetition of key fabrics, use of strips and sashing. This class is a wide-open day and it does vary with each group of students. Students are also encouraged to provide ideas to each other as they discuss what challenges they face with their unfinished work. Can be tailored to audience.
All Day Workshop or Half Day Discussion.

CROCHET YOUR SCRAPS AWAY
This class is for a student with basic crochet knowledge; students receive a simple, single crochet pattern for a 2 ½ x 3 foot throw rug constructed of ½" fabric strips. There is time to sit and crochet, while discussing various color choices; I will demonstrate how to modify the rug size and how double-crochet can be used.

LECTURES AND TRUNK SHOWS
My lectures all cover my own quilting journey. I can, however, focus on one aspect of that journey - for example, how inspiration comes, how to translate inspiration into fabric, or the role of color. I have had a wonderful journey over the past twelve years with a lot of joy and humor in my hits and misses - so all talks are lighthearted.
